If you want a short outdoor pause around a Tempo appointment, choose the place by the time you actually have. Cavendish Square Gardens is the shortest option when it is open, Paddington Street Gardens South gives you more seating and public toilets, and The Regent’s Park suits a longer break.
This is a researched local guide, not a personal review. The walking estimates below were checked in Google Maps on 11 September 2026 from Tempo Performance, 1 Cavendish Mews North. Allow extra time for crossings, crowds and the exact gate or bench you choose.
Choose the break by your available time
The return walk is part of the plan. A garden that takes twelve minutes to reach needs more than a twelve-minute gap in your diary.
- About 20 minutes total: if the garden is open, walk to Cavendish Square Gardens, pause briefly, then return.
- About 30 minutes total: use Paddington Street Gardens South for a longer sit or a gentle walk through the paths.
- About 50 minutes total: reach The Regent’s Park, spend a short period inside, then walk back without rushing.
These are planning windows, not promises. They include an approximate return journey and only a short stop at the destination.
Cavendish Square Gardens: check planned works first
Google Maps estimated an eight-minute, 0.3-mile walk from Tempo via Portland Place when checked on 11 September 2026. That makes Cavendish Square Gardens the shortest route when the garden is available.
Westminster City Council’s current park page describes a formal square with grass, large plane trees and shade. It lists daily opening from 8am, a seasonally changing closing time, wheelchair access and permission for dogs.
A separate council notice says major redevelopment is planned and that event applications are suspended. It does not give a reliable public reopening schedule. Check the current park page on the day and use one of the other options if access is closed or unclear.
Paddington Street Gardens South: more room for a pause
The checked walking route was about twelve minutes and 0.5 miles via Weymouth Street. This option works when you have enough time to sit without watching the clock from the moment you arrive.
Westminster City Council lists plentiful seating, grass, planting, a bandstand and a children’s play area. The council also confirms disabled access and toilets, including disabled toilets, accessible from Paddington Street. The garden opens daily from 8am and has seasonal closing times.
Choose this garden when seating or toilet access is more useful than reaching the closest patch of green space. Facilities can be temporarily unavailable, so the official page remains the source to check before a time-sensitive visit.
The Regent’s Park: use it for a longer break
Google Maps estimated about twenty minutes and 0.9 miles to the mapped Regent’s Park destination. The park is large, so your final walking time depends on the gate and the part of the park you intend to use.
The Royal Parks states that pedestrian gates open from 5am and close at dusk, with the closing time changing through the year. Its official map is the right place to choose a gate and check current notices before setting out.
This is the better option when the walk itself is part of the break. If you want a structured run rather than a quiet pause, use Tempo’s separate Regent’s Park running guide; this article does not repeat those routes.
Fit the break around the appointment
Do not turn a short outdoor pause into another task that must be completed perfectly. Decide how much time remains after the return walk, choose one destination and keep the plan easy to abandon if work, weather or transport changes.
- Check the official access page before an early or late visit.
- Leave enough time to return to the studio without rushing.
- Use a closer square when the diary is tight.
- Use Regent’s Park only when the longer journey fits comfortably.
If you are planning your first visit to Tempo, the contact page gives the studio address and arrival details. The useful next step is simple: put the return time in your calendar before you choose the garden.
