What is changing locally?
The Royal Parks confirms the overnight closures during the bonfire-night period. This is a restriction at Primrose Hill, not an announcement that all of Regent's Park is shut throughout the day. Check the current notice and signs before travelling.
The notice was published on 13 October. Its relevance now is the approaching closure, not a newly discovered announcement. Primrose Hill is north of Regent's Park; it needs its own travel allowance from Fitzrovia. Do not treat it as an exercise area immediately outside Tempo's studio.
An open gate is only one part of the decision. You also need a usable surface, enough visibility and space to move without putting other park users at risk. An earlier booking in your diary does not guarantee those conditions.
Your keep, move or replace worksheet
Write down the job of the session first: easy running, hill-specific practice or general aerobic activity. Then complete these five fields before choosing an alternative. This is a coaching planning tool, not a validated test.
| Field | Your entry |
|---|---|
| Purpose | What should this session achieve? What part must stay the same? |
| Access | Which place, date and time have I checked? Can I finish and leave before it closes? |
| Conditions | Is the surface usable, with enough visibility and room for other people? |
| Next hard day | What demanding run, sport or gym session is already planned next? Would moving this session crowd it? |
| Decision | Keep, move or replace—and what would make me stop or reschedule? |
Keep the session if a permitted time and suitable conditions let you do its intended work without rushing preparation or the return journey.
Move it when the specific task matters and today’s alternatives do not match. Check the next hard training day before inserting it elsewhere. There is no universal recovery interval prescribed by this worksheet.
Replace it when a different activity still serves an acceptable purpose. Record the change honestly. A cycle or swim may fit a general activity goal, but it does not reproduce hill-running practice. If no suitable option exists, leave the session out and review the plan rather than forcing a substitute.
A completed example: an easy run on 2 November
Hypothetical example—not a client result: A regular runner normally starts at 22:15 and includes Primrose Hill. The closure rules out that part of the route.
| Field | Completed entry |
|---|---|
| Purpose | An easy run; no hill repetitions or pace test planned. |
| Access | Primrose Hill is closed at the planned time. Check a familiar alternative route that avoids it. |
| Conditions | Use the alternative only if visibility, surface and pedestrian space are suitable on the day. |
| Next hard day | A demanding gym session is already planned for the following evening. Do not turn tonight’s easy run into added hard work. |
| Decision | Keep the easy purpose on the checked alternative route. If conditions fail, reschedule and review the week. |
The useful record afterwards is the actual route, duration, effort and any problem—not “made up for the closure”. If the original purpose had been hill-specific practice, this same decision would need reconsideration.
Keep route choice separate from training advice
To choose a route that fits your available time and session, use our Fitzrovia and Regent's Park running-route guide for route options. If you need a measured loop, the Regent's Park track guide explains the 385 m loop and access checks. Neither guide guarantees same-day availability.
For general health, NHS adult activity guidance includes both aerobic activity and strengthening work. That supports a varied week. It does not prove that cycling, swimming and running produce identical preparation for a running goal.
Your next step
Complete the five fields before your next affected session. Afterwards, add what actually happened and one change for next time. The closure dates above apply to this specific notice; check for a new notice if reading after 9 November 2026.
If your gym work and running keep competing, bring your weekly plan to Tempo's personal-training consultation. Our studio is at 1 Cavendish Mews North, Fitzrovia, with the entrance off Hallam Street. Use the studio contact and arrival details when planning a visit.
This is researched local information and general training education. Tempo does not operate or represent the park. No personal visit, guaranteed route safety or individual medical advice is claimed.
